Meet The Team

We are a team of researchers at CSUN making contributions to our understanding of EGFR signaling, with relevance to both cancer and sleep, using the model organism C. elegans.

If you are interested in joining the CSUN master's degree program,

shoot me an email to see if our lab might be a good fit for you.

If you're an undergraduate thinking about research but not sure what it's all about,

take BIOL447/L Full Immersion Research Experience (FIRE)!

If you find you enjoy science-ing, think about joining the VBK lab afterward.

I fell in love with genetics (and C. elegans) while an undergraduate at the University of Calgary. I did my PhD in molecular biology at Princeton with  Dr. Trudi Schupbach, studying EGF signaling in Drosophila oogenesis. I moved back west, and back to worms, for my post-doctoral work at Caltech with Dr. Paul Sternberg, studying EGF signaling during development before stumbling into a discovery of a role for EGF in sleep. I've been at CSUN since 2011, trying to provide students the kind of opportunities that I've been fortunate to have.
